Authorities in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, have arrested a family who was begging on a visit visa. According to Dubai Police, the two brothers were seen begging near a mosque with their wives and a child. He also claimed that he was disabled.
Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, Major General Jamal Salim Al-Julf, said they were clearly using ‘deception’ to fool people into giving money and exploiting the generosity of residents during the holy month. The policemen immediately arrested him.
According to Khaleej Times, Major General Al Jalaf said that 116 beggars were caught in the first half of Ramadan. They include 59 men and 57 women, cash has also been recovered from them. The top official warned the public to never respond to beggars’ requests, as investigations have shown that most of them are part of syndicates operating from outside the country. Many people are brought on visit visas, especially to beg on the streets.

Begging is a crime in the UAE. Major General Al Jalaf encouraged the public to report beggars through Call Center 901, Dubai Police’s ‘i’ platform on its smart app, or through the e-Crime Service.
