For smartphone users, battery life is one of the most important features. No one likes running out of power when they need it most. According to a test by PhoneBuff, a popular YouTube channel, if you want a longer-lasting device, it might be best to choose Apple over Samsung.
The new iPhone 14 Pro Max and Galaxy S23 Ultra both promise epic battery life. In the test, both phones were put through the same set of tasks, including making calls, playing games, watching videos, and getting directions via map apps.
At the halfway point, the S23 Ultra was slightly ahead, with over 50% of its battery life still intact. Meanwhile, the iPhone 14 Pro Max had dropped to 48% power. However, as the tests continued and the tasks got more memory-intensive, the iPhone started to take the lead.
Eventually, when the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s screen turned black and shut down, the iPhone still had 6% left in the tank. This was enough to keep the fun going for another 38 minutes.
Overall, if you’re looking for a smartphone with excellent battery life, the iPhone 14 Pro Max may be the way to go.
It’s an interesting comparison because the Galaxy S23 Ultra actually has a slightly larger battery at 5,000 mAh compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 4,323 mAh power pack. However, it seems that Apple’s superior application optimization and better integration between software and hardware give it the edge in battery life.
PhoneBuff notes that although the iPhone came out on top in their test, this year’s comparison was one of the closest ever, and Samsung’s S23 Ultra is a significant improvement over older models.
In another test performed by the team at DXO Mark, the S23 Ultra actually ranked higher than the iPhone 14 Pro Max in terms of battery power. The testing firm praised Samsung’s phone for its excellent autonomy, lasting nearly 67 hours in moderate use, with an average lifespan of 2 days and 19 hours on a single charge.
Here’s the full list of phones and their ratings according to DXO:
• Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (Snapdragon) – battery rating 142 • Asus ROG Phone 6 – battery rating 140
So, while PhoneBuff’s test showed that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has better battery life than the S23 Ultra, DXO Mark’s test showed a different result. It’s worth noting that battery life can vary depending on usage patterns and settings, so it’s always a good idea to consider multiple sources when comparing smartphones.
