A tragic incident unfolded in Daira Din Panah, Kot Addu, Punjab, where an explosion in a house claimed the lives of five people and left three others injured. The local police confirmed the casualties on Thursday, stating that the house belonged to an individual employed at a junkyard.
At the time of the explosion, waste materials and scrap were being sorted inside the house, according to police sources. Soon after the incident, law enforcement agencies and security personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation into the nature of the explosion.
Among the victims were two women, a girl, and two men, all belonging to the same family. The deceased individuals were identified as Haseena Mai (40), Bilal (38), Iqbal (30), Shano Mai (28), and four-year-old Sadia Bibi. The injured individuals were promptly transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Kot Addu for medical treatment.
Rescue 1122, the emergency response service, received a distress call at 8:44 am reporting the explosion and casualties caused by an “unknown object” in the house. In response, three ambulances were dispatched from the Kot Addu Central Rescue Station, and the police were informed accordingly.
Eyewitnesses at the scene informed the rescue team that five people had died instantly, while three others sustained injuries due to the explosion of the unidentified object inside the room. The rescue team commenced their operations, but it is too early to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion.
Taking serious note of the incident, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar has requested a report from the regional police officer in Dera Ghazi Khan and ordered the district police officer in Muzaffargarh to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the incident.
